Blame Cananda

Banff, Alberta Canada was an especially wonderful place to visit for me because it was my very first time "North of the Border".  Bob has traveled to Canada for work and fun on several occasions but I had never experienced this country before.

Let me just say, I'm in!  I could move there tomorrow.  I love the mountains, I love the lakes, I love the people, I love the way they talk, I love the food.  Canada is the entire package...in the summer.  I hear the winters are a bit rough so I'm not defecting just yet.

We really enjoyed Banff National Park. It's huge!  Lake Louise is a very special place within the park  The water is the most amazing shade of powder blue.

The historic Fairmont Hotel sits right on the lake.  We took a little tour (to get out of the rain) and found it to be a fabulous hotel.  We are also pretty sure we can never afford to actually stay there.  Luckily they let all rain soaked hikers in to dry off and look around.

Our Pricelined hotel was not quite as grand but it wan't too shabby either.  The Holiday Inn Canmore is a lovely new mountain lodge in a wonderful town next to Banff. The view from the windows was of the Three Sisters Mountains.

The little town of Banff is a busy shopping area with lots of great stores and restaurants.

A short drive outside of the downtown area was a beautiful reservoir and more of the national park.  We had two more bear sightings there although Bob was unable to get a picture,  We watched a very  large bear run into the woods and Bob jumped out of the car to capture a shot of him as he came out. I stayed in the safety of the car ( for obvious reasons ) and as I looked ahead the bear was sauntering across the street directly in front of us.  By the time I got Bob's attention it was too late to get a picture. Suffice it to say he was MUCH bigger than the little guy in Glacier and Bob was really upset.  Apparently seeing a bear is just not good enough...you have to have documentation as well.

We did get to see some other great wildlife however.

Canadians have a pretty strange sense of humor.  This was taken in front of our very favorite Canadian Restaurant called Boston's.  Great pizza and ribs.  If anyone can explain this to us we would greatly appreciate it.

Below are a few more of Bob's great photos.  Enjoy!
