The Running Y

As we drove inland from the breathtaking but chilly Oregon Coast to the Crater Lake area the temperature jumped 30 degrees.  In a four hour trip through the mountains it went from 60s to 90s.  We have learned to dress in layers since we arrived in the Pacific Northwest.

We also watched two wildfires being fought from the air by plane and helicopter as we traveled through the forested mountains.  Both were caused by lightening strikes in the area the day before we arrived.

While we were looking for a hotel near Crater Lake, we found a beautiful area to spend a few days off the road.  The Running Y Ranch was once owned by a nephew of Walt Disney and is now a beautiful subdivision that sits on Klamath Lake.  It also has a lovely lodge where we enjoyed some great views and very little time in the car!

In the photo below you can see someone built a makeshift ladder in order to take full advantage of the beautiful lake and mountain views.

The Mule Deer are thick on this property and they seemed to be totally comfortable with people.  A little too comfortable perhaps.

There is an abundance of other wildlife as well.  Here is one of the zillion Prairie Dogs we saw on the property.

A special thank you to Bob's sister Barb and bro-in-law Craig for identifying all the bird photos we send to them several times a week!!!  It's good to have experts in the family!

These are cute little Barn Swallow's that I forgot to post from Mt. Saint Helens.

Below is a Brewer's Blackbird.

These are some of my favorites... a Quail family!

The sunsets are spectacular there!  If you are ever in the Klamath Falls, Oregon area we suggest you check out the Running Y.

The last day we were there the smoke was getting pretty thick and air quality was very poor.  A good time to head south to California!
