The Oregon Coast

I think we may have found a more beautiful drive than the road from Kamloops, British Columbia and that is the gorgeous drive down the Oregon Coast!  The wild ocean on one side and the incredible mountains on the other make for an "I don't know which way to look" situation.  We made a LOT of stops for photos in the few days we spent on the coast.

We visited the lovely little ocean side town of Cannon Beach on the suggestion of our amazing and well traveled cousin.  Thanks Jim Sacco!  We loved visiting this charming town!  It is a very popular tourist town with lots of great restaurants and shops.  If we didn't live in a car I would have purchased quite a bit of local art.  A return visit will definitely be necessary one day.

The lovely homes in town were all beautifully landscaped and the people were wonderful.  One kind family who lived right by the beach left a bowl of water out with a sign that said "doggie drinks",  They also had a table with boxes of sand dollars and other ocean treasures free for the taking.

I was told that the "Goonies" rock was in Cannon Beach.  I thought the one pictured below was it and we took several dozen pictures of it as our children were ( are? ) big Goonies fans.  Sadly, this is NOT that rock.  It's still really cool though right?  It's actually called Haystack Rock and is fairly famous in the area but has no ties to a movie that I know of.

The beach at Cannon Beach is one of those really fine soft sand beaches where you don't step on shellls or rocks.  The water is cold and there is always a cool wind so the warm sun is important to those who hang out by the ocean.  Many people still had a sweater or light jacket as they walked but there were kids playing in the water as well.

We stayed near an old shipyard and Bob enjoyed aome exploring in that area,

One of our favorite stops on the coast was at the Tillamook Cheese factory.  Not only were they generous with the samples but their ice cream was amazing!  Thanks to Stacey Flores for this suggestion!!!

As we drove south down the coast of Oregon the wind started to pick up.  It got pretty strong in gusts and actually took me for a little ride on the way to the car after a stop.  If the Lexus wouldn't have been there for me to slam in to I might still be flying down the street.  They really do have a pretty crazy wind!

Take a look at some more of Bob's photos below.  I think you will agree that the Oregon Coast has a beauty all of it's own.
